Since 2005, Mr. Tuner, Mark Cerisano, RPT, has been giving piano tuning and repair courses to many individuals who for various reasons, are interested in learning more about this fascinating skill.

Some students have come wanting to learn how to do it so they can tune their own piano. Some have gone on to pursue a vocation and even study more in depth at university. Some have come just to learn more about the piano, and while they may not practice the skill after, often take away a more heightened respect for pianos and the technicians that service them.

Each course is designed to present a healthy balance of theoretical and practical experience. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of six whenever possible.

There are some correspondance and online courses available on the internet. But don't let anyone tell you different - you cannot learn to tune pianos well, or do any performance art well, without hands-on, personalized instruction. If you are a musician, you already know this. My course has been taken by more than 100 students and they have all received high quality personalized instruction and I have seen incredible improvements from almost every student by the end of the course. It is truly amazing for me to experience. That is why I love doing this.

The courses were started in Montreal but are now being offered in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. Whatever your interest in piano tuning and repair, I know there is a course that you will find intriguing and I hope it is in a city near you.
